CRIS SUPPORT GROUPS

Our caregiver advisors know that caregivers and grandparents raising grandchildren face unique challenges. Our team is here to offer support, assistance, education and referrals. Through our experience we have learned that some of the best support offered to caregivers and grandparents is the support of others in similar situations and that’s where our support group steps in.

We hope to be meeting in person very soon but currently these supports groups are currently being held on Zoom. If you would like more information please email Valarie at ValarieS@agestrong.org

Class Type: Classroom setting, weekly sessions for 12 weeks.

This is a group discussion among caregivers both about how to assist them as caregivers but also how to assist the loved one they are caring for in setting goals to age well. In this 12-session class, participants create their own playbook for aging well via actionable goals, sustainable behaviors, and peer support, all in the context of their lives as caregivers.

PEARLS

Program to Encourage Active, Rewarding Lives ( PEARLS)
Eligible: All older adults
Focus Area: Depression
Class Type: 6 Individual Sessions with CRIS staff. Not a group setting.

PEARLS educates older adults about what depression is (and is not) and helps them develop the skills they need for self-sufficiency and more active lives. The program takes place in six sessions. Classes are conducted one on one in your home, in a local community location or at CRIS senior center. This evidence based program has been shown to be a great fit for people who do not see other mental health programs as a good fit for them but think they could be happier and better at problem solving. The classes are NOT conducted by a therapist but a CRIS staff person trained in the PEARLS model. PEARLS coaches meet one-on-one with older adults for six one-hour sessions, typically over the course of four months. The program begins with weekly sessions that gradually taper to monthly. This is a common skill-building technique used to support people in gradually learning to problem solve on their own.
